CONGRATULATIONS TO

2018 Capital Challenge pits teams from Georgetown University’s Master of Professional Studies in Real Estate Program, The Colvin Institute of Real Estate Development at The University of Maryland, The Kogod School of Business at American University, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and George Mason University’s M.S. Program in Real Estate Development in a case study competition focusing on a real estate development/redevelopment project in the Washington, DC, Suburban Maryland metropolitan area. Teams are assigned the same real estate case study and provided essential information and/or assumptions about the property. Students will then formulate a proposed investment strategy and develop a comprehensive analysis and recommendations to maximize the potential of the property from both a quantitative (financial) and qualitative (feasibility) standpoint.
The Capital Challenge uniquely examines a “real life” case study and assigns each school a team of consultant sponsor firms from supporting disciplines to help the team develop their solution. At the Challenge Awards the winning school is awarded a Grand Prize Scholarship of $10,000!
We are excited to explore a unique DC based site in need of an innovative repurposing solution. Previous Challenges have examined Lantian Development’s I-270 property, Greenhill's Wheaton Maryland holdings, The Midland Companies prime Bethesda property, Federal Realty's Pike 7 Plaza, W.C. Smith’s Riverfront Portfolio, Akridge’s Buzzards Point and more. The case sponsorship and consultant sponsorship proceeds fund the scholarship prize and team expenses incurred during the competition.
Teams are assigned a developer, architect, contractor, broker, engineer and financier to consult on the winning solution.
Registration for consultant sponsorships is now open and allocated on a first come first served basis.
The Capital Challenge is an innovative way to connect our NAIOP members with the bright young minds of future real estate professionals and has proven to be of great value to the case sponsor and consultant sponsors so please, get involved and help make this another successful Challenge!
